I am Pradeep Raj Onta, born in Bungkot, Gorkha. My family originally came from Thamel, Kathmandu, but my grandfather moved to Gorkha, shaping my early years. For over two decades, I have lived in Kathmandu, where I built my career in photojournalism. My passion for photography led me to document important moments, both nationally and internationally. With more than 16 years in the field, I am proud to serve as a senior photojournalist at the National News Agency (RastriyaSamacharSamiti - RSS) in Singha Durbar Plaza. In my role at RSS, I am constantly engaged in covering significant events, capturing impactful images that contribute to Nepal's media landscape.
Beyond my work as a photojournalist, I have embraced the role of an educator. At RSS, I have had the valuable opportunity to provide training to fellow journalists and aspiring photographers, helping them refine their skills and deepen their understanding of visual storytelling. Additionally, my training programs extend to schools, colleges, government offices, the army, and the police, where I share my expertise to empower individuals in various fields with the power of photography.
As the President of the National Forum of Photojournalists Nepal, I remain committed to advocating for photojournalists, ensuring their work receives the recognition and respect it deserves. Through this platform, I work toward strengthening professional ethics, fostering innovation, and building a supportive community for fellow photographers. Every picture I take reflects my journey, my experiences, and my commitment to preserving history through the lens. Whether through capturing images or guiding others in the field, I strive to keep photography a powerful medium for truth, storytelling, and change.
